Parish Business Ministries As with everything in life, St. James must pay its bills, maintain its properties, insure its valuable possessions. St. James is blessed to have members whose gifts and expertise help keep the parish business humming. St. James Vestry members are those who make up the "board of directors" of the parish, and whose charge is to work with the rector in overseeing parish operations. Finance and Property Committee members oversee the smooth running of St. James' parish. Stewardship Committee members work together regarding the needs of its members to give of their time, talents and treasures so that St. James may thrive and continue to serve God in its mission and ministries. Saturday Work Day helpers join others who meet monthly to help spruce up the property in and around St. James. Office helpers offer their time to help with administrative projects and office needs. |
Education Ministries Our worship and how we live out our Christian lives in the world is informed by what we learn about our faith tradition. St. James offers a diverse array of educational programming for all ages. Adult Education classes, forums and retreats offer the opportunity to learn, question and discuss various issues of interest to the community. Adult Bible Study brings people together to learn about scripture, and interpret its meaning today. Sunday School and Youth Education provides our children and young adults with a rich and balanced understanding of the faith that encourages questioning and discussion, while putting faith into every-day practice. Older teens attend Confirmation classes over the course of seven months, as they prepare to make a mature commitment to Christian life. St. James also hosts an Education for Ministry class. EFM is a four-year program of theological study and reflection. If you are interested in joining a class in the fall, speak with the Rector. St. James is home to the St. James Preschool. See www.stjamespreschool.org for more information. | |

Worship Ministries Worship lies at the heart of our community. We gather to celebrate the mystery of Christ's birth among us and resurrection for us, remembering the grace we experience in his name at our altar as we partake of the Holy Communion. Saturdays and Sundays mark the regular moments in our week when we come together for these celebrations. The community also gathers to say Morning Prayer together weekdays. And all of the threshhold moments of our lives are also marked as a community, as we rejoice at the baptism of a child, witness the marriage of two persons who seek God's blessing on their union, and mourn together when a loved one passes on. Altar Guild members prepare the altar for worship, maintaining the linens, vestments and utensils of the liturgy. Acolytes serve during worship to assist the celebrant. Chalice Bearers offer the chalice to those receiving at the Holy Communion. Senior Choir and Junior Choir members offer their beautiful voices in musical glory to God during worship. Greeters warmly welcome those entering the church for the service. Sunday Flowers are made beautiful by those who offer their talents and time. Coffee Circle members prepare the coffee hour for after-service fellowship. Morning Prayer Readers lead the weekday services of morning prayer. Saturday Coordinators devote their time and energy to setting up the Saturday worship service and seeing it goes smoothly. Counters help us keep track! |
Parish Communications Ministries If St. James did not proclaim the worship and work it was about, who would know about us? Who could join us? In today's high-tech society, St. James seeks to "get the word out" through various media. Messenger Design members craft the parish newsletter. Website Design members keep our web pages current and welcoming. |
Pastoral Care Ministries St. James is about community. Our worship, ministries and programs bring us together as a parish family, marked by friendship, caring and presence beyond the walls of the church building. Pastoral Care Committee members have formally taken on the important ministry of presence and prayer for the community and those dear in heart. Home Meeting Hosts organize gatherings for the community in individual homes, maintaining and building the friendships and networks created in the parish. offer their time to transport st St. James worship and programs, those who are unable to make the trip themselves. Drivers help transport people to and from church for worship services and programs. The St. James Prayer Group consists of parish members who commit themselves to keeping the needs of parish members in their daily prayers. Members receive on-line prayer requests and notices of happenings such illness, death, and other life events. Members also gather during the year for quiet days of prayer, reflection, and discussion of intercessory prayer. Sign up to become a member of the prayer group on the St. James home page at www. stjameslanghorne.org. |

Outreach Ministries In serving those in need in the greater community, we fulfill Christ's commandment to love and to serve others, for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me (Matthew 25:35-36). Food Pantry Donations and Volunteering Every week, parishioners bring non-perishable food to be donated to the Emergency Relief Association of Bucks County. The Association provides area residents with food, rent, and utilities. What can you do? Next time you go shopping, add an extra can or box of food to your cart, and put your gift in the baskets under the Parish Hall table. This can be a wonderful family ministry! And if you would like, you can support the Association with a financial gift, sent to ERA, 8525 New Falls Road, Levittown, PA 19054. For more information about the work of ERA, call its offices at 215-547-1676. Help is also needed to transport the food from St. James to the food pantry. Interested? Call the parish office to sign up! |
