Come and Visit Us!

Current Outreach Opportunities at St. James

The Soup Kitchen at St. Marks, 1625 Locust Street, Philadelphia.   Our next visit is on Saturday December 10, 2011.  From 7:00 a.m - 9:30 a.m we will help by preparing the tables, serving soup, cutting bread and washing dishes.  The soup for this date is Dad's Chicken Soup. The recipe for this soup is available from St. James.  Everyone is welcome to come and help any Saturday morning.

Christmas Gift Bags for St. Marks, Philadelphia for the people who are served at the soup kitchen.  Thank you to everyone who generously donated items for these bags.  We delivered 136 fleece blankets, 40 scarves, 18 hats, 20 pairs of gloves and 40 pairs of socks. Our next scheduled trip is on March 24, 2012 - but remember you can go down and volunteer any Saturday.

We are asking for your support of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq by donating stationary, holiday cards for them to send to loved ones, disposable razors, shampoo, soap, suntan lotion, toothtpaste & toothbrushes, deodorant, chapstick, candy ( not  chocolate), cookies, gum, games, playing cards and books. A box is provided in the parish hall.

Ongoing is our weekly collection of food for the ERA food pantry. The need is always great and every little bit helps. Remember to pick up an extra can or two when you go shopping. If you don't know what to bring...bring canned fruit. This item is always in demand and hard to to keep in supply.  Oatmeal is also greatly appreciated during the winter months.

Support the Shelter. From October  through  April  we collect clothing for a men's shelter in Philadelphia.  All donations should be put in the container in the parish hall -- suggestions include:  flannel shirts, sweaters, hats, gloves, socks, underwear, sweatshirts with or without hoods -- all donations are appreciated.  We suspend this collection for the summer due to storage difficulties at the shelter.
